Aparade of 1980s rally legends and their cars will be in action at the Ignition Festival later this summer. The show at the SEC in Glasgow has confirmed that Group B era drivers Markku Alén, Miki Biasion, Stig Blomqvist, Timo Salonen and Ari Vatanen will all be driving heydayera rally cars twice a day across the weekend of 4-6 August. They will also be available for autographs and photographs throughout the event.

A spokesman for the show says: ‘ We are still confirming what cars will be included in the parade, but the five rally drivers will lead a display of ten cars and it’s likely they will be in cars like Ford RS200s, Lancia Deltas and Peugeot 205s.’

While they won’t be driven in fullbore anger during the parade, the show’s organisers say that they will be driven ‘as fast as the owners are comfortable with.’

Each of the five drivers is also scheduled to drift modern cars in a Street Stage Shoot- Out on a specially constructed gymkhana circuit over the weekend.

Festival director, Cat Stanford, adds: ‘Scotland has an incredible motor sport history and the presence of these rally gods and their idolised Group B cars is going to be one of the stand-out highlights of this year’s bigger, faster and louder show.’

Stanford is expecting crowds of more than 26,000 and standard tickets are available for £27.50 in advance or £31 on the day. A grandstand ticket is available for £40. Late entry tickets will be available after 2pm.
