SILVERSTONE HOTS UP FOR MGLIVE!
The action was as hot as the sizzling temperatures at the world’s biggest all-MG event, last weekend, with classics packing out the UK’s most famous race circuit
Silverstone echoed to the sound of howling race car engines from the track, tortured tyres from the Autosolo circuit, live music and the dulcet tones of Wheeler Dealers stars, Mike Brewer and Ant Anstead in the live arena during another action-packed MGLive! event on 17-18 June.
The sun blazed out of an often-cloudless sky as more than 3000 MGs converged on the UK’s national circuit for two days of top octagon-themed entertainment. Cars were segregated into model-specific parking, allowing visitors to drool over some of Europe’s finest MGs, with owners from Holland and Germany joining their Brit counterparts.
While adventurous types took part in the Human Gymkhana in the live arena or enjoyed a ride on a monster truck, others watched stunt driver Russ Swift making various MGs do the seeming impossible or toured the circuit’s infield area on a variety of vintage buses.
As always, however, the track took centre stage at the event, with MG races including the MG Car Club MG Trophy and BCV8 Championship, the Cockshoot Cup (organised by the MGCC’s North West Centre) and Iconic 50s race for pre-1962 sports cars and sports racing cars. A little light relief was provided by rounds of the Porsche Club GB and Radical Challenge Championshps and the Masters Pre-66 Touring Car race, saw Ford Falcons and Mustangs duking it out, doorto-door, with Mini Coopers and Lotus Cortinas.
A lucky few, meanwhile, had the opportunity to take their road cars around the track during a lull in racing.
