I MODDED MINE
David races a highly-modified Austin Seven Ulster with the VSCC. He also built a fast-road Seven, with a lot of help from Oxfordshire Sevens and Rickets Automotive. Using a correctly registered chassis and Rod Yates body he finally settled upon a Don Rawson ex-race engine, detuned by Ricketts, with a Pigsty Racing trials cam and single 1¼in SU. ‘It needed a race clutch and better brakes (hydraulics at the front) along with a stronger rear axle and halfshafts. I’m about to fit a close-ratio gearbox, as the step from third to top is too great on a standard gearbox. Whether building or modifying a Seven you must decide what you want it for. Installing a fast engine is only the beginning. Unless you want much higher performance it may be better to stick with light tuning and improved brakes
and handling.
