WHY I LOVE MY GOLF MKIII

‘My car’s a late model from 1997. I’ve owned it for about four years, now. I’d always coveted the VR6 because my brother had one when I was younger and I really liked the noise it made.

‘I bought mine privately but it was suffering from a whole variety of problems. There were issues with the power steering and suspension, the ABS didn’t work and every wheel had bolts missing! I wasn’t very pleased as you can imagine but I’ve spent plenty of money on it since to get it to where I want it.

‘I’ve made some modifications, including Porsche seats and wheels and the front end from a VW Vento. I’ve also uprated the suspension with Eibach anti-roll bars at both ends but the engine is standard – there’s plenty of power and the sound and performance always surprises other drivers.

‘I don’t use it as much as I’d like at the moment but it’s definitely a keeper.’
