BULLI FOR THEM – 31k MILES BY VW
Malaysian fans visit Volkswagen assembly plant as part of epic round-trip in three T-campers and one Beetle
Five Malaysians have spent three months driving 12,420 miles in their classics to visit VW’s Commercial Vehicles assembly plant.
The fans left their homeland in three VW Bullis (colloquial term for Volkswagen Ts) and a Beetle at the beginning of March. Cliften Nathaniel, Terence Moses, Stephen Pang, Monica Xavier and Udhaya Kumar dropped in at the Hannover factory late last month.
Volkswagen Germany’s Friedrich Mattiszik says: ‘ We know we have Bulli fans across the globe, but to see them travel such a long way to us in their classics is something we’ve never experienced before.
‘It was a great honour for us to show our plant to these globetrotting fans. This is, after all, the birthplace of the vast majority of T-series vehicles.’
T1 owner, Stephen Pang, says: ‘This is a dream come true for us. We always wanted to go to where the Bullis were built. Now we not only know how well these vehicles cope with a long journey, but also we’ve seen where they originated over the generations. It was impressive watching humans and robots working together.’
The Bulli fans are now planning to visit Belgium, France and Scandinavia as part of their adventures. They are visiting orphanages in various countries and participating in a number of charitable events.
After travelling a total of 50,000 kilometres (over 31,000 miles), the trip will finish back in Malaysia.
