THE CCW VIEW
The Lotus Seven is something of a paradox, being simultaneously the best and worst car you’re ever likely to drive. It won’t protect you from the elements, it has no mod cons and its ride forces you to revaluate what you previously considered to be a firm suspension set-up. And yet its levels of grip, the precision of all of its controls and the immediacy of its acceleration conspire to blow the Seven’s rivals out of the water.
Forget the practicalities – this is a car that should be used purely for fun. In this regard it’s without compare, which is why, 60 years on, it’s a sports car that deserves to be celebrated.
