Low-mileage Monty sparks 3k-mile dash

-

One man’s passion for Austin Montegos took him on a 3000-mile journey across Europe to pick up a mint 1987 model.

Frank Hewson drove a Montego as a company car in the 1990s and set out on a mission to buy one after retiring.

He says: ‘ That nostalgia of driving one back in the ‘90s got rekindled when I retired and I was told to get a hobby. So I set out to find the best one I could.

‘ That led me to European eBay equivalents and I found this rust-free low-mileage LHD Mayfair 2.0 model in Spain.’

The car was previously owned by someone who only visited his house in Spain one month of the year and he would only drive it during that month. This is why the car has only amassed 29,191 miles over the last 30 years.

The previous owner passed away and left the car to his house-keeper who then put it up for sale.

Sadly, Hewson is now having to sell this pristine 1987 model (priced at £3250) because he has found another Montego to add to his collection and only has sufficient garage space for one car.

He adds: ‘I’ve been asked by the Maestro/Montego club to bring this blue one to the NEC Classic Motor Show so if it’s not sold by then, that’s where it will be. I’m hoping to get a picture of this one and my new white one together before it goes.’ classiccarsforsale.co.uk/austin/ montego/234388
