REV UP FOR THE REVIVAL!

A panoply of classic racers and a who’s who of racing drivers to descend upon Goodwood

The UK’s largest celebration of cars made between 1948-1966 and tweed made in 2017 is upon us.

Petrol-headed goodness this year includes a tribute to Scotland’s most famous racing team, Ecurie Ecosse, and even the humble Fiat 500 is getting an honorary head-nod, acknowledging its 60th.

And don’t forget the racing. The Kinrara Trophy on the Friday evening returns after a scintillating debut last year. A race for closedcockpit GT cars with engines of three litres and over of a type that raced before 1963, it should make for a hugely exciting curtain-raiser to the meeting.

The St Mary’s Trophy pro/am format provides the most robust and exciting racing of the weekend, with hardened touring car racers battling it out. This year it’s not an all-Austin affair like it was last year – Rileys, Ford, Jaguars, and even a Nash Metropolitan will star.

The Whitsun Trophy gets a special mention as the fastest race of the Revival, thanks to the likes of McLaren M1Bs, Lola T70s and Ford GT40s.

And the Sussex trophy provides a nowtraditional curtain closer, celebrating sports cars and production sports-racing cars of a type that raced between 1955 and 1960; its a magical time-warp trip back to the discipline’s heyday when Jaguar D-types, Knobbly- and Costinbodied Listers and Ferraris battled across the continent for top endurance-racing honours.

As for the Over The Road classic car show that takes part in the car park, well, that’s the highlight for many people and will be an event in its own right. How many shows within a show contain 3000 cars?

Don’t forget to read our full event report in next week’s issue.
