A simple idea, but one that makes measuring the thickness of your classic’s brake pads a breeze. There’s no need to remove the wheels and material, it lets you check the amount of pad material remaining in a few seconds, even if you cannot see the pad. Simply locate the end of this aluminum gauge against the surface of the brake disc, then slide the measuring peg back until it stops against the back plate of the brake pad. Then read off the thickness of the pad material in millimeters or be advised by the green/amber/red traffic-light symbol as to whether or not you need to replace the brake pads. The gauge offers a quick and easy way to check to brake pad condition on the go and is definitely worth bringing along with you when checking out a potential new classic purchase.
