VW owners are hardly wanting for relevant books, but Volkswagen: The Air-Cooled Era in Colour focuses on the marketing and production of postwar to 1970 VWs in a light, easily accessed way with very little tedious data. Pretty 1940s and ‘50s stylized artwork gives way to the brutal honesty of the 1960s, and there’s a pleasing amount of Type 3 and Razor Edge coverage included. Great for the newcomer to the work of Beetles and buses, it’s a shame that the reprint doesn’t extend the 411s entry a little further. In fairness, there’s plenty of material out there for the wider air-cooled enthusiast, and this brings together VW’s most significant models at a great price.
