REVIEW Specialist and Toy Sales, Vectis, Thornaby, North Yorkshire, 12-13, 19-20 September There was a fine choice of diecast models offered by Vectis in its September sales – and some general items of automobilia among the lots, too.

The Specialist Diecast Sale on 12 September featured items from nine private owner collections with more than 730 lots. Among the heartland cars that day, we particularly liked the boxed, orange Corgi No.201M Austin Cambridge with silver trim, flat spun hubs and mechanical motor. This went on to smash its £140-170 estimate to sell for a staggering £408.

Another winner was a Dinky No.102 MG Midget Sports Car, pale green with cream interior and driver figure, that went for £288 (estimate: £90-110), while a colourful Corgi No.349 Morris Mini Minor ‘Pop Art Mostest’ models left its £1000-1200 estimate behind to reach £1440.

The following day’s sale also had an enthusiasts’ section with bumper/grille badges, tie pins, signs, books, postcards and photographs. A box of various badges sold for £110 above its £70-90 estimate and still represented value for money.

On 19 and 20 September, it was the Northamptonshire Collection Matchbox Sale, with a Matchbox Regular Wheels G1 Motorway Gift Sets being sold for £1080 (£300-400).

Vectis’ Specialist & Tinplate Toy Sale is on 10 October, and The Chris Terrington Yesteryear Collection is the next day. ■ vectis.co.uk
