classic auctioneer goes online only

-

Berlinetta, an auction house known for its unique events, is now operating solely online, selling around 12 cars a month following its first sale 18 months ago.

Sales director, Rob Thornton, says: ‘We decided to hold events where people could see cars in action and talk to owners.’

The last such auction took place at the Manor Country House Hotel in Oxfordshire, in November 2016. Rob adds: ‘After the auction people were asking if they could put their car in the next event but we wouldn’t have another sale planned for six months or so.

‘So we decided to put a couple of cars for auction online and it just took off. We’ve been so busy with the online side of the business we haven’t had the chance to organise another sale.’

Cars sold included the last car to leave the Marcos factory when the company collapsed in 1971. Chassis 2T 5967 made £12,390 plus premium. Nick larkin berlinetta-auctions.co.uk
