HOW’S THE CAbin? The MkI’s delightful simplicity is demonstrated inside, but some trim parts are becoming scarce. Broken seat frames and water ingress from perished seals are issues, too. Quality seat covers, headlinings, and door cards can all be sourced but be wary of escalating budgets if you’re heading into the realms of a major renovation – throw in new carpets and you’re looking at a £1200 bill. There’s nothing to worry with the electrics, though, so just check the insulation and connectors aren’t perished or corroded, and that amateur fiddling hasn’t compromised safety.
