Elton John’s Bentley up for sale

-

A Bentley that can count Sir Elton John and Lord Sugar among its previous owners will be coming up for auction next month.

The 1959 Bentley S1 Continental Sport Saloon is expected to fetch £500,000 at Bonhams’ Bond Street sale in London on 2 December.

Elton John described the car, which features coachwork by HJ Milliner, as ‘the most beautiful car, I think, that’s ever been designed.’

He bought it in 1976, before selling it to The Apprentice star, Alan Sugar in 2001. He owned it for six years, before selling it on again in 2007 for £145,000.

Tim Schofield, head of Bonhams’ classic car department, says: ‘Bentleys are always magnificent cars to have at our sales – the craftsmanship and performance are rightly celebrated across the world. This is a particularly special model, having been owned by two legends of British stage and screen respectively – Sir Elton John and Lord Sugar.

‘Celebrity provenance always boosts the profile of a car, and is often an indicator that the car has received the very best treatment throughout its life.

‘The Bond Street sale is a star-studded event this year, with this Bentley, Sir Paul McCartney’s Aston Martin DB5 and Ringo Starr’s Mini.’
