Classic Risers

- David Simister

MGB GT V8

We’re looking at the chromesnouted original version of Abingdon’s rumbling coupé, given that they tend to fetch more on the market than the later ‘rubber’ bumper models. Prices barely moved for years, meaning that you could pick up a sound example up for well under £10k for a long time, but prices have started picking up over the last few years. Nowadays decent examples are fetching upwards of £12k at auction, but it’s worth noting that we’ve seen V8s listed for a lot more.

THE CCW VIEW

The V8’s rarity factor means that it’ll always go for more than its four-pot siblings. But if you’re prepared to shop around and don’t mind a less-than-perfect example, it still represents fantastic value for money. We reckon there’s still potential for values of the chromebumper models to rise even further but the ones we’d watch are the later models, which are starting to close the price gap.
