Valuer My Classic: What this MGB GT is really worth…

HOW LONG HAVE YOU HAD IT?

My MGB GT was first registered on 14 January 1972. I bought it from Devon Classic Cars Ltd. in Ermington, in May 2014, after spotting it advertised on eBay. Since buying it, I’ve replaced the wings, fitted new sills and had the whole car resprayed. Other than that it’s just been odds and sods on the brakes and other minor mechanical bits. The Ford gearbox has also been refurbished and I’ve converted the engine to electronic ignition. Since this picture was taken I have also had the Rostyle wheels repainted in their correct black and silver colour scheme.

HOW MUCH HISTORY?

Not too much. The 29,000 miles is only supported by the last couple of MoT certificates. There are no previous MoTs or history on the vehicle. Even the government MoT history site shows nothing on the car prior to 2016, so it may either have been laid up for a long time or had a registration number change.

WHAT’S LEFT TO DO ON IT?

The interior still needs attention. I am going to replace the carpets, seats and door cards over the next few weeks. I also intend to get a new steering wheel, as well as a better dashboard, centre console etc.

HAS IT BEEN MODIFIED?

I was told it used to be raced by a previous owner, which was said to explain why it came fitted with a Ford Sierra five-speed gearbox and Spax shock absorbers.
