Awesome foursome

…but could CCA be planning another sale for 2018?

- GARY DUNNE, SALES MANAGER, CCA

How successful do you think CCA’s sales were in 2017?

CCA has had a superb 2017, with almost an 80 per cent sales rate for our last three sales, and have no reason to believe that our December 2017 sale should not achieve a similar return.

Were there any notable prices achieved? And why do you think that was?

Star cars of the year range from the BMW 635CSi manual in April achieving a world record of almost £100,000, the Audi quattro in September with another world record at more than £70,000, to the more traditional classic results for the Mercedes-Benz 190 SL barn find at the NEC and the very late Austin-Healey in the same show which achieved more than £70,000 and £96,000 respectively. In each case this was down to the incredible rarity of the examples and that they were unlikely to ever be repeated, so we achieved our goal of finding discerning buyers for the very best cars.

Which makes/models do you think have become more popular throughout the year?

During the year it has become more apparent that customers are looking for unrepeatable cars, whether they’re modern classics – Audi, BMW, Ford and such – or traditional classics such as ‘Healeys, Triumphs and MGs, with notable successes including a lovely TR4 and MGC in recent sales.

And what might have slipped back and so offer better value than they might have 12 months ago?

Ferrari and Porsche have without doubt become more attainable, and some models are currently offering incredible value. Given their status, though, they look as though they could be due a renaissance, while Aston Martin, Maserati and others now seem to be within reach of our ‘everyman’ market.

How many sales do you have planned for 2018? And will you be considering other venues?

Right now CCA is continuing to offer four sales per year – our Spring one at the NEC Restoration Show, and three further ones in June, September and December at the WEC. We are in a fortunate position in that we could possibly have created a fifth sale during the year, given the success that we have had in consigning cars and the volume of cars offered, but right now we are happy to remain at current levels. Though that said, I would never say never.
