MAJOR NEW EVENT FOR BRITISH CLASSICS
Austin-Morris Day at Brooklands morphes into the British Marques Day
Amassive new event for British classics is taking place at Brooklands Museum in March. The British Marques Day, set for 4 March, welcomes all UK-built classics. It’s hoped that more than 1000 classics will attend.
Brooklands spokesman, Paul Stewart, says: ‘The idea is to celebrate the best of British car manufacturing with an all marques event. We have previously held an event for BMC and BL cars, and now that we have extra space thanks to the restoration of the original Brooklands Finishing Straight, so we’ve decided to hold this new show.’
Paul adds: ‘There will be a whole host of British-built vehicles from pre-war Alvises and Sunbeams right through to the latest Jaguars. It should be a great event.’
A cavalcade of classics will take place on the neighbouring Mercedes-Benz World Circuit, and clubs will be invited to hold special events. Owners will also be invited to put their classics through their paces on the museum’s infamous Test Hill.
Head of track and air events, Steve Castle, says: ‘After many requests to open up our popular Austin Morris Day to encompass more marques, we have taken the opportunity of the space opened up throughout the site.
‘As a result of this change, the new British Marques Day is an opportunity for the owners of cars, motorbikes and commercial vehicles to celebrate the British motor industry, both past and present, at the birthplace of British Motorsport.’
Tickets to the event are on offer at last year’s price of £11.50 via the museum’s website, or from the museum’s shop.
