Minor club to bare all in aid of charity
Morris Minor Owners’ Club members will be, er, stripping their own bodywork to help raise thousands of pounds for charity – by doing the Full Monty!
The stunt is part of the club’s 70th anniversary celebrations for the Morris Minor. The club has selected Prostate Cancer UK as its official charity for the year, and individual club branches across the country are being invited to organise fundraising events.
The idea of choosing the charity came from club members, Chris and Sue Akrill. Sue says: ‘So many people in the club have been touched by this disease – one in eight men will suffer from it during their lifetime.’
The Full Monty will be an evening highlight during the club’s Annual Rally at Kelmarsh Hall, Northants on 23-24 June. Sue adds: ‘We thought that it would be something different. It will definitely be unforgettable and everyone will be pleased to know that participants will be getting plenty of practice. We can promise that wellknown people from the Morris Minor world will be participating. Thankfully it will be after the watershed!’ A special line-up of cars marking the 70th anniversary will be seen at the rally, too. Bruce Kelsey, who organised the club’s Round Britain Marie Curie Charity Marathon in 2016, is appealing for cars with stories behind them to create a display.
