Triple the charm at Brooklands

-

Three cars with unusual histories are going up for sale at Historics’ 3 March auction at Brooklands.

The first, a 1929 Austin 7 AD Tourer, has been with its lady owner for close to 60 years. The Austin was given to the owner as a birthday present when she was a teenager and it has remained with her since, seeing sparing use on the Channel Islands in recent years and being restored in the 1980s. The 7 is up for grabs with an estimate of £10,000-14,000. Historics’ auction negotiator, Stewart Banks, says: This is an utterly delightful car, even more special given that it’s been owned and driven for nigh-on 60 years by the vendor.’

Joining the Austin is what is thought to be the only remaining MG TD police car in existence. The 1953 car was originally registered by the Lancashire Police Force and has been owned by the vendor since 2003. With 21,174 miles on the clock, the MG is offered with an estimate of £14,000-18,000.

The final car is an ex-RAF 1968 Land Rover Series IIA. While former-Army Land Rovers are relatively common, this ex-RAF Land Rover is a rarity in its Welsh Grey bodywork. Today, the Land Rover is fresh from a major restoration in Bournemouth, seemingly having stayed on the south coast all of its life, having first been registered for use at RAF Tangmere, West Sussex. Having been fully stripped and rebuilt, it is estimated to fetch £19,000-25,000.

Historics’ auction negotiator, James Good, says: ‘ There’s a certain irony in the fact that the Land Rover is such a workhorse and yet here’s surely one of the finest quality restorations you’ll ever come across after the most immaculate professional work. It’s hugely impressive.’
