Value My Classic
I bought my Midget privately for £2500 in January 2017 from the friend of a friend. It is in generally excellent condition, with no corrosion or dents and a very good interior, hood and tonneau cover, and it had been fitted with a stainless steel exhaust. I’d say that the previous owner had looked after it, but didn’t have time to love it, so in the last year I have spent hours tidying it up and improving it in various ways. It is currently insured for £3500.
HOW MUCH HISTORY?
There’s documented history for the last 16 years. The body must have been repaired prior to this and resprayed in two-pack, but there’s no documentation to support this. However, the work must have been done to a good standard because the car still looks so good. The mileage – just under 67,000 – is genuine, and almost 11,000 of that has been on a reconditioned full engine – converted for unleaded petrol – that the previous owner had fitted.
WHAT’S LEFT TO DO ON IT?
Not much at all, now. Over the last year I have fitted new rear leaf springs, renovated the Rostyle wheels and fitted two new tyres (due to age rather than wear). I’ve also fitted a new battery and done various jobs to make the electrics more reliable. Elsewhere, various clips and fixings have been replaced to improve the car’s appearance and togetherness. After sorting out a sidelight, it passed the last MoT test without any advisories and drives very well.
