HOW LONG HAVE YOU HAD IT?
Since October 2007. It’s an early Interceptor Series lll with the updated interior but the 6.3-litre engine. It had been stood in a barn for 27 years before I bought it from a dealer in Essex for £2950, including delivery to Lincolnshire. I completed the restoration (apart from the engine) in October 2017. I wonder if you can give me an idea of its value? My current up-todate documented spend, including purchase, is around £12,600.
HOW MUCH HISTORY?
The speedometer and sparse, but logical information with the car confirms a mileage of just 32,600.
WHAT’S LEFT TO DO ON IT?
Unfortunately, I am fairly sure that the original engine was started and run dry during its lay-up – I found the oil pump to be scored and suspect that the main, big end and camshaft bearings are also scored. I still have the engine and intend to rebuild it at some stage, but I bought another, said to have around 50k on it, and it does run very well without any signs of burning oil.
The restoration included a bare-metal respray to its original build colour. The underside of the car required no welding, though the inner and outer sills have been replaced, and the front and rear valances required some remedial metal work – cutting out some poor metal and welding in new. The interior was complete, with no tears or holes, but in need of restoration. I’ve also changed the automatic gearbox oil and filter, along with a new sump that includes a drain plug.
HAS IT BEEN MODIFIED?
I have upgraded the car with superior thermal/acoustic engine side bulkhead insulation.
