Auctions: Historics on good form at its Ascot Racecourse sale
Heavy weather outside, but 66% result as 100 classics sell for £3.09 million
More than 1100 punters braved still grim Berkshire weather for Historics’ first sale of the year, and the result was far brighter than the skies. The end-of-sale conversion rate was just under 70%, with more than 100 cars selling to a gross value of £3.09 million. Attendance was well up on last year when Historics held its first Ascot Racecourse sale.
At the heavy money end, a 1972 Porsche 911 2.4S made £135,000, a 1992 911 RS lightweight £280,000 and a 1956 Bentley S1 Continental fastback, £291,200. A 1962 Continental Flying Spur tipped the financial scales at £120,400.
Other notable performers included a 28,000-miles-from-new 1983 Mercedes-Benz 380SEC that sold for £21,840 and a 1929 Austin 7 Tourer that charmed one punter into paying £17,360, a sum far north of the 14-grand upper estimate.
Historics returns to Brooklands for its next sale, on Saturday 19 May.
