More than 25 significant Ford Escorts are set to take part in a race to mark the model’s 50th anniversary at Brands Hatch, later this year.

Organised by the Historic Sports Car Club (HSCC) and billed to take place at ‘Brands Indy’ weekend on 22-23 September, the event will mark the anniversary with two races on the venue’s Indy circuit – the first for MkIs only, the second for MkIIs and MkIIIs. Spectators can expect a variety of period-spec race modifications, driving legends and some very special entries.

Among the highlights will be XOO 349F, the MkI Twin Cam racer with which Australian driver, Frank Gardner, won the British Saloon Car Championship 50 years ago. Brought along by Alan Mann Racing – the same team behind its 1968 victory – the car won’t be in contention but will run demonstration laps. A number of BTCC MkIII racers are also expected to be on display.

Competitors will include three RS1600s from across the Channel – two being campaigned by the Dutch Classic Competition team.
