Bullitt hits the target in Geneva
Classic film star Ford upstages the moderns at Switzerland’s annual motoring festival
‘Lancia displayed its reimagined Stratos next to one of the originals’
While Geneva’s annual auto extravaganza focuses primarily on the latest production machinery – and provides a glimpse into the future – there are always lots of classics, and this year several historic concept show-stoppers were included.
To this end, Ford displayed the original Bullitt Mustang to promote an all-new version that’s set to hit showrooms soon.
A separate display commemorates TAG Heuer’s long-standing involvement in motorsport; things kicked off with the sole surviving Super Leveque from 1911 (one of just 26 built) and moved via a Ford GT40 to the latest Aston Martin Vantage. Lancia’s reinvented Stratos has generated plenty of column inches and predictably had one displayed next to one of its originals. No prizes for guessing which one we prefer…
Not far away from the Stratos was an example of Renault’s first car from 1898. Called the Type A, it was on show because Renault is keen to shout about how old it is – 120 this year and counting, in fact.
The most intriguing display was of a set of concepts first seen at Geneva many years ago. These include Italdesign’s first ever concept, the Bizzarrini Manta from 1968, as well as the Bertone Sibilo from 1978 and the incredible 1967 Lamborghini Marzal.
