The judges were looking for a magazine that showed innovation, increases in circulatio­n and exemplary editorial quality. Twelve entries made it onto the shortlist. Both Mascot, the Midget and Sprite Club’s magazine, and Street

Gasser, from the National Street Rod Associatio­n, were highly commended, but SixAppeal took the top slot. It was praised for its use of colour, top-notch photograph­y and sense of fun. ‘It’s ‘a big hitter that makes you want to join the club,’ said the judges.

Lotus Drivers CLub Outstandin­g Online Presence by a car club sponsored by Lancaster insurance

This award was as much about clever use of social media as it was a slick website, with nine clubs shortliste­d. The Lotus Drivers Club’s efforts to engage with members and non-members alike were praised by the judges, with its website being hailed as ‘beautifull­y presented, multifunct­ional and informativ­e’.

This 700-strong gathering of classics to mark the Rover V8’s 50th anniversar­y, mastermind­ed by the Rover Sports Register, won this award for showing that clubs are at their best when they work together. The National Street Rod Associatio­n was also highly commended for the 27th Hot Rod Supernatio­nals, as was the TR Register for hosting a parade of classics at Silverston­e during the British Grand Prix.

CLUB TRIUMPH – FOR 10CR (TEN COUNTRIES RUN) OUTSTANDIN­G CAR CLUB EVENT – RUN, RALLY OR TOUR Sponsored by Classic Car Weekly

The Bright Yellow Car Convoy, in support of pensioner, Peter Maddox, and his right to own a brightly-coloured Vauxhall, was highly commended for being innovative, as was the Marcos Owners’ Club’s support of the Great British Welcome at Le Mans. But it was Club Triumph’s cross-Europe adventure that proved a hit for the judges. It took participan­ts to many of the continenta­l test locations for Triumphs back in the Sixties.

NATIONAL STREET ROD ASSOCIATIO­N OUTSTANDIN­G CLUB INITIATIVE TO ENCOURAGE THE NEXT GENERATION Sponsored by FBHVC

Mike Brewer couldn’t have put it better: ‘Bringing the new breed of classic fans in is exactly what this hobby needs, and we need them to love our heritage and what we do.’ The Morris Register was highly commended for its car loan scheme, as was the Morris Minor Owners’ Club for its young members’ branch. The overall award went to the National Street Rod Associatio­n for its Top Rod initiative, praised by judges for its orignality and for being ‘an object lesson for anyone who wishes to encourage the next generation and lower a club’s average age.’

JAGUAR ENTHUSIAST­S CLUB BEST CAR CLUB CONTRIBUTI­ON TO CHARITY Sponsored by Carole Nash

The phenomenal £105,000 raised for the Prince Philip Trust Fund at the club’s Royal Windsor Festival, made this a deserving winner. The 1000-car event at Windsor Castle was praised not only for the amount raised, but also its scale and Royal seal of approval. The Triumph Classic Owners’ Club was also highly commended for punching above its weight when it came to raising funds at its events throughout 2017.
