TRIUMPH SPECIALIST EXTENDS FACILITIES
Buoyant TR market prompts £30k expansion at TRGB
Cambridgeshire-based classic car specialist TRGB has ploughed £30,000 worth of investment into improving its workshop facilities.
The Somersham company now has a state-of-the-art paint oven and a dedicated paint technician, which owner Gary Bates says will make restorations more efficient.
‘This helps speed the whole process up. It makes it easier for us and should give us a better finish,’ he says. ‘ We still paint in two-pack and we still flat and polish, so the finish looks more like cellulose. The oven means shrinkage or imperfections can be found immediately.’
TRGB has also expanded its workshop unit space. It now employs 13 full- and part-time staff and, when we visited last week, TRGB was working on cars belonging to 21 different customers.
As the name suggests, TRGB specialises in Triumph’s line of TR2 to TR6 sports cars, but can accommodate most classic cars in its workshop. In addition to servicing and restorations, TRGB also sells a comprehensive catalogue of parts and offers a selection of cars for sale.
Commenting on the current market for Triumph sports cars, Bates says: ‘TRs are really, really buoyant; they’re affordable and relatively rare on the roads. We sell cars to our loyal customer base in the UK but have recently sold further afield – a TR3A has just gone to France while a TR4 is on its way to Sweden.’
