Members of the Porsche 924 Owners’ Club worked very hard on their stand. They brought three cars along with them, two of which they worked on throughout the show, and another in already very good condition to guide them as to what they were aiming for.

The Rolls-Royce Enthusiasts’ Club might seem an odd visitor to a show focused on rust and restoration, but their mixture of a barn find 1949 Bentley MkVI, a restored Silver Shadow two-door saloon and a working cutaway of a Silver Wraith engine pressed our award judges’ buttons.

Oldest car at the show was this 1906 Rover 8hp, seen here with members of the Stourbridge Pre-War Car Club on their stand. Geoff Norgrove bought it in 1964 – in two halves (one of which was in a hole under a tree) – and then restored it over the next 50 years.

The Jowett Car Club’s five-car stand certainly impressed the National Car Club Awards’ judging panel by having four projects taking place over the weekend simultaneously – and for showing other clubs that hot metal work can be safely carried out in the NEC’s halls during a busy show!

The Land Rover Series II Club managed to pull off a coup by bringing the first and second cars off the production line to a show for the first time. The club’s busy preparing for the car’s 60th anniversary celebrations, due to be held in Rutland in August.

The judges were stunned by the quality of Chris Boffey’s 1973 Saab 96 restoration. Practical Classics editor, Danny Hopkins, says: ‘It’s a remarkable piece of work, carried out by a bloke in a shed, as all the best restorations are. Every time I walked past, it stopped me – it chose itself for this award’.
