HOW LONG HAVE YOU HAD IT?

I bought it in 2011 from a friend, who unfortunately was seriously ill. I had been looking for a roadster for a couple of years and knew this was a good one. In 2000-01 it was subject to a full body-off restoration by a specialist in Kent. In 2013 I had some bodywork undertaken, and replaced the wet weather equipment. I also had the car professionally resprayed, again in its original OEW. The car has done circa 10,000 miles since the rebuild. With the purchase price and money spent along the way it has probably cost me just short of £25,000. Insurance valuation is £30,000.

HOW MUCH HISTORY?

I have a fairly thick file of papers, bills and MoTs back to the 1990s. Judging from this the original mileage is circa 110,000. When built in March 1962 the car was destined for the USA. However, the order was cancelled – no doubt prompted by the MGB’s launch. When eventually sold as a RHD car it was registered in East Sussex on 18 August, 1962. The MGA Register advises that its thought to be the second youngest UK Roadster still on the road today. One interesting feature is that the scuttle is body colour and not trimmed in Rexine as most if not all MkIIs were. MG may have been running out of parts given that production was ending.

WHAT’S LEFT TO DO ON IT?

Nothing really – it’s an honest and original matching numbers example.

HAS IT BEEN MODIFIED?

The only mods fitted since are electronic ignition and a discreet power point for satnav.
