1967 Volvo Amazon
HOW MUCH HISTORY?
I have the original manual and have kept a log of all receipts,
HOW LONG HAVE YOU HAD IT?
I purchased my Amazon for £300 back in 1990, when it only had 26,000 miles on the clock. When I bought it, I was originally going to look at a Triumph Stag, then I spotted this under a tree. When asked if it was for sale the owner laughed, and said: ‘You’re looking at its best side.’ The car needed a lot of dents pulled out and a fair few new panels due to accident damage. I resprayed it myself in my home garage, sent all the chrome away to be professionally redone. Then I started on the mechanicals, where I rebuilt everything from the suspension to the transmission and engine, while trying to keep everything as original as I possibly could. work carried out by myself and all MoTs up to the present day. I’ve also photographed and dated each section of restoration which is kept in a photo album. The car was purchased from the very first owner so I am only the second.
WHAT’S LEFT TO DO ON IT?
I’ve chauffeured five weddings in the Amazon, the latest being my stepson’s in June 2014. I’ve no plans to change anything else on the Volvo except keep it in tip-top condition.
HAS IT BEEN MODIFIED?
There are no aftermarket mods except hardened valve seats to allow it run on unleaded petrol. Keeping the Amazon to its original spec as much as I could was a priority. Being an automatic, it’s rare to find so I didn’t wish to alter this in any way.
