Support is building for a new hill climb – the first to take place on closed roads – planned for later this year.

The Watergate Bay Speed Hill Climb, due to be held near Newquay in Cornwall on 15 September, is the first event of its type to take advantage of 2017’s changes to the law.

After a long campaign, the Motor Sports Association (MSA) had the law changed so that it could issue permits and close roads; previously, it required a special Act of Parliament.

Having received an event organising permit by the MSA in March, Watergate Bay Speed Hill Climb is to follow in the tyre tracks of the Corbeau Seats Rally Tendring and Clacton, and MotoFest Coventry. Organised by Truro and District Motor Club, cars will use a timed section of the B3276 between Padstow and Newquay.
