No let-up in Scotland

Good weather fires up Morris Leslie’s punters

- KEITH MURRAY MORRIS LESLIE

‘We offer a range of classics for all generations’

How has the market been for you so far this year? Has it been strong, OK or quiet?

As we approach our second classic auction of the year we can see no let-up in the diversity of vehicles being consigned from Scotland and the North of England, especially as we are now enjoying glorious weather and the show season is feeding enthusiasm with buyers and sellers alike.

Where are you selling most cars to? Is Scotland still a big marketplace for you?

I am often asked how does the market here differ from the rest of the UK and it’s fair to say that we attract the same kind of buyers as all the other major auction houses in Britain, and maybe more so with our 5% buyer’s fee.

Is there much variety in your next sale? And how do you make the bidding process easier and more relaxed?

A study of our online catalogue shows the wide range of classics for all generations (morrisleslie.com) – our advisors update this as each lot is consigned; it is always changing.

We have viewing the day before, and we feel this is essential to potential purchasers as it gives them the opportunity to inspect cars of interest.

For those who cannot attend we can always recommend one of the local and reputable classic car restoration companies to carry out confidential inspections as required. This, we feel, gives bidders the confidence on the day to pay that little bit more.

This particular sale offers impeccably restored cars, very original cars and a selection of project cars from all eras, the latter group attracting enthusiasts who enjoy a restoration project. Having seen over the years the results of the effort that goes into the restoration of a project car it’s clear there’s a huge amount of satisfaction these enthusiasts gain from the challenge.

What is your opinion of projects, and of barn finds? Are they still in demand?

One of the most exciting aspects of this calling is finding a long-lost car, so there is demand. However, over the years I don’t think I have managed too many ‘barn’ finds – it’s usually a ‘residential garage’ or ‘outbuilding’ find, but the feeling of opening the door and not knowing what to expect never diminishes. ❚ 01821 642940, morrisleslie.com
