EAST OF ENGLAND SUMMER SEA TOUR

- JAMES SADLIER MANAGING EDITOR

This splendid drive provides epic coastal views with a pleasing hour or so of classic car driving through picturesque North Norfolk. Start at the The Old Boathouse Café in Old Hunstanton for a good breakfast, then either enjoy a morning walk along the beach or set off towards Titchwell Marsh. The latter is home to the RSPB’s nature reserve where you can enjoy all types of wildlife and birds – with native and seasonal visitors. The meandering route offers ideal views and conditions for your classic and in most places the road isn’t too narrow for the passing traffic coming the other way. There are many tempting small shops, art galleries, roadside stalls and watering holes along this route – many of the latter offer locally caught fish and other tasty treats from the area, too. For those favouring a pub lunch, Holkham Hall is an excellent choice, which offers history, scenery and good food all in one setting. You can also enjoy stretching your legs on some beautiful beach walks at Holkham and explore the attractive nearby traditional seaside town of Wells-next-the- Sea, which also offers delightful sea views.

Further along the road to Sheringham you can enjoy a few straight stretches of road to open up the throttle. Places worth stopping off include Cley, with its delightful old windmill and the pretty harbour at Blakeney. If you time it right, you can run alongside an historic train on the North Norfolk Railway between Weybourne and Sheringham, too!

On the way home it is worth checking out Sandringham and also Wolferton, where the old railway station (the one the royal family once used when going to and from Sandringham House), which closed in 1969, has been converted into a pair of beautiful houses and gardens – just right for car photography while parked outside!
