WHERE DID YOU BUY IT AND FOR HOW MUCH?

Fellow Aston Martin Owners’ Club member, Malcolm MacGregor, a highly talented engineer who helped me look after my DB6 for more than 30 years, was heavily involved with the Ford XR2 project. So when the opportunity to purchase a new car for my wife came, he suggested the Fiesta Si would be a short-run, practical fun car and possible rare future classic. As an Essex lad with short pockets, I started motoring with old Fords and developed my DIY skills to maintain reliability and increase performance, so all that sounded good to me. It was purchased in 1994 from a Ford main dealer, Laidlaw in Essex, for around £8000.

HOW MUCH HISTORY?

All of it, and most of it is documented with full service history that backs up the car’s low mileage. It has always been regularly serviced and has had routine maintenance items whenever required, including a new cambelt at 22,000 miles (done as an age precaution). The car has given me no major problems and until recently it was nearly always garaged. It’s not a concours car but it is still in basically good original condition.

WHAT’S LEFT TO DO ON IT?

Very little. There are a couple minor parking dents in the doors, courtesy of supermarket car park idiots, and the sunroof channel has minor corrosion bubbles around the lip where the water exits were blocked at some time. Since the car is no longer garaged, I reluctantly need to find it a new home soon before it starts to deteriorate. With prices covering such a vast range, I placed an ad in the classified section with an asking price of £1600 to gauge response.

HAS IT BEEN MODIFIED?

No.
