5 WAYS TO MAKE IT BETTER
UPGRADE THE SUSPENSION
There’s plenty you can do here, from refreshing standard springs, dampers and bushes with original-spec parts to some tasty upgrades. For example, at £395 Classic Alfa’s handling kit includes a bigger front anti-roll bar, new drop links, uprated bushes and new front/ rear springs. Lowering the suspension can improve the stance.
GIVE THE ENGINE PLENTY OF TLC
Specialists can supply all manner of parts to spice up the legendary Alfa twin-cam, but there’s a lot to be said for keeping it standard. You’ll need to maintain it properly, so invest in oil and filter changes every 3000 miles. A healthy cooling system is paramount, so treat it to a regular flush.
FIT A FRUITIER EXHAUST
Better breathing and a fruitier exhaust note are always nice, improving efficiency and adding extra character, and you’ll find top-quality sports systems in stainless steel for around £650. Classic Alfa does a sports exhaust manifold for 1750/2000 engines , which costs £485 and is definitely worth considering.
INVEST IN BETTER WHEELS AND TYRES
For an extra dash of Italian brio, alloy wheels from the likes of Cromodora or Campagnolo cost around £150 each. A popular upgrade is swapping 165 tyres for 185/70s, but be wary of going further as the steering gets heavy.
DON’T LET RUST RUIN YOUR LIFE
Keep a close eye on all the metalwork, and tackle any localised rust spots as soon as you find them. An annual treatment session to smother inner panels and cavities with rust-proofing products is a wise move.
