BITTER AFTERTASTE
Last Bitter made is on the market
A 1997 Bitter SC Coupé – the last Bitter ever made – is up for sale at Fast Lane Classics in Hertfordshire.
Caught up in Bitter’s bankruptcy in 1990, the SC remained half-built before the company’s founder, Erich Bitter, bought it from administrators and slowly assembled it using left-over parts from the Schewlm factory. Erich finished the car in 1996, and planned to use it as his personal vehicle, before an English enthusiast persuaded him to sell it to him, registering it in Britain as was originally intended for the car in August 1997.
The Bitter is one of just 40 RHD SCs built and one of only seven believed to be in the UK. Offered for sale at
£16,995, the car is described as driving superbly, but not quite perfect, with the air conditioning not currently working.
Fitted with Opel Senator running gear and engine (stroked to 3.9 litres), the Bitter is also the only right-hand-drive SC fitted with a catalytic converter, thanks to its lengthy production schedule.
Fast Lane Classics owner, Dave Wiggins, said: ‘It’s got just 43,000 miles on the clock and that’s backed up by the history. All the literature the car came with when new is with the car, and there are even bits like a Bitter-branded pen, cufflinks, keyring and umbrella.
‘It’s a bit of an oddball car and probably the rarest we’ve ever had.’ fastlaneclassics.co.uk 01727 809813
