Vauxhall’s heritage collection ‘safe in Luton’
Vauxhall has confirmed that its 60-strong fleet of historic vehicles is to be moved to a new location in Luton.
Last month CCW reported that the future of the collection – which includes a 1903 5hp that often takes part in the London to Brighton Veteran Car Run, a Viva GT and a Vectra, the final passenger model built at Luton – was under a 45-day consultation as part of wider discussions over the future of its Griffin House site.
Vauxhall’s head of product communications, Simon Hucknall, said that the collection will be staying together, reiterating that no car was to be sold off or made static.
He said: ‘The exact location will be revealed in due course. We look forward to running the open days again.
‘It’ll be business as usual for us, retaining our two full-time staff and showing off the cars in the media collection for the benefit of Vauxhall fans, for which they provide a great deal of enjoyment.’
Administrative operations will move from Vauxhall’s long-standing Griffin House to nearby Charlton House, but the Heritage Centre, which is still based in Luton, will be located elsewhere in the town, despite various unconfirmed reports online claiming that this wasn’t the case.
Available resources mean that the Vauxhall Heritage Centre, which celebrated its 25th anniversary earlier this year, will be limited to a similar number of open days from its new location, with dates scheduled to be published in due course. tinyurl.com/plwzcty
