HUGE PORSCHE DISPLAY SET FOR NEC
The marque’s 20-strong 70th birthday display is just one highlight to keep an eye out for in the NEC’s halls
’There will be ten 986-generation Boxsters restored by main dealers’
Two special displays bringing together 20 freshly restored Porsches will be among the highlights at next month’s Lancaster Insurance Classic Motor Show, with Discovery.
Porsche Cars Great Britain is marking the manufacturer’s 70th anniversary by bringing together special editions of its classic models at the 9-11 November event at the Birmingham NEC, including ten 986-generation Boxsters restored by main dealers across the UK.
The manufacturer will also be bringing along its Project 70 racing car to the display in Hall One, which is based on a 1965
911 restored by four companies involved with its Porsche Classic parts and restoration programme. The 2.0-litre car has taken part in historic racing events throughout 2018, including the Silverstone Classic, Le Mans Classic and the AvD Oldtimer Grand Prix event at the Nürburgring.
Other displays to look out for include a gathering of Vauxhall’s sportier Cavaliers over in Hall 5, which marks the 30th anniversary of the MkIII’s launch and is being masterminded by the Cavalier and Chevette Club. The display, inspired by Luton’s The Is Have It advertising campaign to promote the GSi and Sri models, will bring together both variants on the stand and mark the Cavalier’s success in the British Touring Car Championship.
The Standard Triumph Forum, whose display will be in Hall 8, is aiming to chronicle the history of both marques with a 12-car display, with its classics ranging from the First World War to the demise of Triumph in 1984. In the same hall the MGF Register is hoping to grab showgoers’ attention with a very early ‘F that’s just undergone a full restoration, and the Historic Marathon Rally Group will be bringing together cars that took part in 1968’s London to Sydney Rally. The Ginetta Owner’s Club, over in Hall Two, will mark the manufacturer’s 60th anniversary by bringing the oldest surviving Ginetta to the NEC.
Finally, it’s worth mentioning the Reliant Owners’ Club. Along with a Supervan with Royal connections it’s also displaying a certain blue Robin that’s back on the road after a full restoration – provided it makes it there, of course!
