Value My Classic: How much for this tiny-mileage Mazda MX-5?

HOW LONG HAVE YOU OWNED THE CAR? I have owned it from new, and it came complete with matching hardtop along with a wheeled floor stand and cover, plus a new-in-box ceiling harness for fitting it. I had a special body sealer treatment done when it was new, organised by the main dealer. The car has always been kept in a doublecavity bricked garage with a dehumidifier running to keep the humidity level down below 45. It never gets used in the rain – just occasional dry day runs. The bodywork remains perfect, with no blemishes or scratches. The interior – perforated black leather with red stitching on the seats, wheel and gear knob – is also perfect, with no wear or tears. The car is as-new and, in my view, a genuine concours contender.

HOW MUCH HISTORY?

The genuine 1998 miles shown on the speedometer is backed up by MoT certificates that show the mileage done every year. I’ve always had an MoT done each year, with no advisories ever recorded. No engine work has taken place apart from a couple of oil changes at the dealer mileage services. It still has its original battery, which is always connected to a Halfords conditioner when the car is not in use. The garage informed me that the cambelt will not require replacing yet, because the environment in which the car is kept is sufficient to stop the rubber degrading.

WHAT’S LEFT TO DO ON IT?

I could be interested in selling the Mazda MX-5 in due course if a realistic offer is forthcoming.

HAS IT BEEN MODIFIED?

No, not at all – the car is even still rolling on its original tyres, which show no sign of any defects.
