BEST REVIVAL YET!

GOODWOOD REVIVAL We were looking for an event that backed up a big count of classics with attractions that felt genuinely special – and the Revival’s 20th anniversary was just that

When it comes to events with more than 1000 cars, it’s a given that the volume and variety of cars on show isn’t enough. What makes a large event great is when it provides visitors with something more than a load of static cars in a field. An element of dynamism, both in terms of the metal on show and everything else that happens around the cars, means top-notch organisation, interesting exhibitors and unique attractions – as well as something unique when it comes to the cars. The on-track action is obviously the star attraction and we were pleased to see such accessible cars joining the fantastic yet rarefied machinery we usually see on the Goodwood track. The St Mary’s Trophy is a Goodwood institution now, of course, but there was the Jack Sears Trophy too, while the return of the Fordwater Trophy was a welcome sight. What really sets Goodwood apart from the other large events, however, is the lengths to which it goes to make an entire weekend experience. Whether it’s the abundant array of WW2 aircraft, the recreated Earls Court Motor Show or the ‘over-theroad’ parking area that’s almost an event in itself, Goodwood ensures that there’s always something competing for your attention. Better still, it makes sure that there are things to entertain visitors who have only a passing interest in the on-track action. Add in the enthusiasm and good nature that most guests show as they turn up in period dress, and it’s easy to see why this is an event that draws visitors from across the world. Goodwood is always good, but this year’s event was the best yet. We can’t wait to see how the organisers try to top it next year.

?? ?? One of the highlights of this year’s Revival was the Kinrara Trophy race, which with a £200m grid was the world’s most expensive.
