Beaulieu to step up event policing
The National Motor Museum at Beaulieu has pledged to ramp up event security following reports of incidents of antisocial driving in the wake of one of its shows.
Social media footage depicted Simply Japanese showgoers leaving Beaulieu aggressively on 28 July; local press ran reports in late August saying that police had spoken to the show’s organisers.
A National Motor Museum spokesperson told Classic Car Weekly that its show roster – including this coming weekend’s International Autojumble – would not be closed down or restricted as a result of Simply Japanese. However, they did not elaborate on how greater security would be deployed.
A Beaulieu spokesperson said: ‘We continue to work closely with the police and employ a traffic management company to control the entrances and exits to the attraction as best as they are able, but, unfortunately, simply do not have jurisdiction on the roads outside.
‘We reinforce safe and responsible driving messages both before and during events and new additional measures are already being put in place, which we believe will help combat this behaviour in future.
‘All of the features of International Autojumble continue as usual.’
CCW first reported on moves taken by classic show organisers to combat increasing amounts of poor behaviour leaving shows on 21 August, with many event managers voluntarily working with police and security firms.
