NEC’s rally heroes
The Lancaster Insurance Classic Motor Show, with Discovery, is to host a live historic rally stage for the first time.
HERO Events’ RAC Rally of the Tests (7-10 November) will run cars through the National Exhibition Centre’s Hall 6 on 9 November. Listed as ‘a speed and agility test’, the Classic Motor Show circuit is to mark the halfway stage of the Rally, run this year from Torquay to Chester. Crews will drive away from the NEC after results are collected to carry on with the competition; HERO Events will have a stand at the Classic Motor Show for the duration (8-10 November).
HERO Operations Director, Brian Whyte, said: ‘It has taken two years of negotiations and planning to bring the RAC Rally of the Tests right into the heart of the show. Visitors will also be able to learn how to get involved in this area of motorsport, be it marshalling or taking part and HERO personnel will be on hand to offer advice.’
Noted classic rally enthusiast and motorsport pundit, Tony Jardine, will provide commentary during the stage and interview drivers, with a 1936 Derby Bentley the earliest car booked.
Show director, Lee Masters said: ‘We are incredibly excited about this special addition to the show. The HERO Events rallies always present a real challenge to competitors, so to have part of the Rally of the Tests take place within the NEC will be a real spectacle for everyone coming to this year’s show.’ ❚ heroevents.eu ❚ necclassicmotorshow.com
