New run for post-’79 cars
Eighties and Nineties cars to head off to the seaside
Previous Classic Run entrants eligible for the new event include this 1983 Austin Metro – which first appeared on the classic TV show Flippin’ Bangers.
The organiser of the CCWsupported London to Brighton Classic Car Run has announced a new sister event for post-1979 cars.
The inaugural London to Brighton Modern Classics Run will set off from Greenwich Park alongside starters
taking part in GE Classic Motor Events’ existing classic car run, but take in a different route to Madeira Drive on Brighton’s historic seafront.
The new run, sponsored by ClassicLine Insurance, will be backed by CCW’s sister magazine Modern Classics, and is open to all all vehicles manufactured between February 1979 and 31 December 1999. The route takes in a visit to Penshurst Place, an historic country house in the Kent countryside.
Entries for older classics are also open on the London to Brighton Classic Car Run, which takes in a visit to the Wings Museum in West Sussex on its separate run to the south coast. There will also be a third run, catering for owners of post-1999 cars and kit cars, with entry into each of the runs costing £110 per crew comprising driver and navigator.
Event organiser, Stephen Smith, said: ‘As the classic car scene has expanded, so have the existing runs. With more owners of cars from the 1980s and ‘90s wanting to join in the fun, this seemed the natural progression.
‘Our event is all about celebrating vehicles on the road, so it’s very much a case of “the more, the merrier!”’
