WHAT’S IT LIKE TO DRIVE?

This totally authentic Toledo fires up first time of asking and dispenses with the manual choke within minutes. Gear selection feels positive with minimal gear stick stirring needed, while the clutch is light and bites at just over half travel. Brakes are progressive with a firm pedal and there are no knocks or rattles from the suspension. The unassisted steering is light and exact with plenty of feedback.

BODYWORK CHECK

The original Honeysuckle finish has an impressive shine, all be it with a few touched-in chips and blemishes. There are small marks to the boot lid, driver’s door and roof, and while the front bumper appears fresh, the rear is showing signs of wear. The wheels would benefit from a re-finish and there’s a small dent in one of the nearside wheel trims. There’s no sign of patch welding repairs to the underside, which is protected by a light and even coat of underseal with evidence of wax oil application in most areas. There are no signs of body repairs; instead there are exact panel gaps

EXTERIOR Solid, period paint, straight panels INTERIOR Showroom appearance Everything works MECHANICALS Rattle-free drivetrain, excellent service record

and a consistent colour finish throughout.

HOW’S THE INTERIOR?

The Chestnut seating shows little sign of its decades of use – just one small patch repair in the outer panel of the driver’s side alongside the tilt release handle. There’s some carpet wear around the gearstick and transmission tunnel area between the seats, but the door cards are in great condition and the roof lining is taut and secure. Both fascia dials – for speed and fuel/water temperature) – operate correctly.

UNDER THE BONNET

The engine bay area shows no sign of major frontal repair, although there are several chips

in the offside inner wing where the battery has been lifted in and out. The engine block is original black but the silver rocker cover could be improved with a fresh coat of paint. There are no signs of fluid leaks. The phenomenal history file contains a Passport to Service with a detailed description of every service and repair carried out between 1976 and 2006 and supporting the mileage shown. The original sales invoice – showing that it was ordered with underside protection and mud flaps – is also included, plus brochure and colour charts, owner’s and workshop manuals and old MoTs. the car comes with dozens of used parts in original boxes and small notes explaining when and why an item was fitted.

THE CCW VIEW

Amazing originality backed up by good history, this Toledo has enjoyed a life of care and attention. This, one of the final rare two-door Toledos produced, would be ideal for any buyer new to the classic scene with small tasks remaining for enthusiasts seeking perfection.
