‘I’M DEVASTATED THAT IT HAS COME TO THIS’
Sixteen-car Humber Museum heads to auction – hopefully as one lot
‘It’s saddening. The likes of this museum will never be seen again’

Marque aficionado Allan Marshall’s Humber Museum is to go to auction next month after losing a battle to keep the collection together.
All may not be lost, however, because Lot 1 in the 9 April auction is the entire Hull-based museum and its contents. This now comprises 16 Humber cars, along with a vast collection of artefacts, spares and memorabilia. The cars will be auctioned individually if the £200£250k reserve isn’t reached. Allan said: ‘This museum is my life’s work and these cars are part of Britain’s heritage. So many people, including me, have tried to keep the museum together and I am devastated that it has come to this. I’ve lost the will to fight on.’
Some cars from the museum have already gone but there are still cars from 1932-1976, including everything from Pullman to Sceptre.
Allan added: ‘These cars should not be split up, but what can I do? There has been an offer on the museum building and we’re paying £400 a week in business rates.’
Auctioneer, Rik Alexander, said: ‘ We are honoured to be handling this sale. Allan is truly devoted to the collection and we hope that it might be sold as a single lot.’
Post Vintage Humber Car Club chairman, Chas Thompson, said: ‘ We are saddened to hear that the collection is being sold off. A lot of people have tried to help save it. The likes of this museum will never be seen again.’
Allan is keeping the museum open until sale day. Nick Larkin
