RoverFest 2017

With this new series in CCW we’re celebrating past shows, runs and tours that simply stopped us in our tracks. The ones where big achievements and mind-boggling displays took centre stage – and where better to start than a 700-strong gathering to mark the Rover V8’s half-century?

Masterminded by the Joint Rover Clubs – a consortium of clubs and groups that caters for classic Rovers and related classics – this 2017 rally surprised even its organisers with the sheer number of P5s, P6s and Range Rovers taking part, with classic owners from as far afield as Sweden, Japan and the US lending their support to the event. This breathtaking display at Wroxall Abbey was the culmination of three days of events organised by the clubs, including classic tours through the nearby Warwickshire countryside and driving test events at the British Motor Museum.

Owners of MGs, Triumphs, TVRs, Marcoses and other classics packing the ex-Buick V8 beneath their bonnets were welcomed with open arms, too – and non-V8 entrants included included a 1906 Rover 6HP – the show’s oldest entrant – and the oldest surviving Rover P4.

The Joint Rover Clubs was planning an equally momentous gathering at Sywell Aerodrome that would have included a similar classic display to mark the Range Rover’s 50th anniversary this summer, but it’s now decided to put the event back to 6-8 August 2021.

We can’t wait to experience it. ❚ roverfest.uk
