The Big Story
They are from a private collection… and you can buy them this weekend
16-car private collection heads to auction
Three Borgward Isabellas, a pair of Austin A90 Atlantics and two Rolls-Royces are among a privately-owned stash of classics going under the hammer this Saturday (23 May)
The 16 cars all come from a UK collection of more than 500 classics, that also includes an exacting Jaguar D-type replica created by ex-Lotus engineer, Jerry Booen, and D-type racer and owner, David Duffy. Most of the cars are described as being in good condition, and in some cases have been previously restored, but some are being sold as non-runners, having stood for several years.
Silverstone Auctions is selling the cars on behalf of an anonymous vendor at its online-only sale.
Managing director, Nick Whale, said: ‘This is a very unusual collection of cars. The Peugeot 202 Canadienne Woodie is particularly rare, as is the Ford Granada, 3.0 litre XL Coupé, which was never available in the UK. There is also a Rolls-Royce Silver Spirit and a Corniche, both of which would provide a lot of pleasure after a bit of detailing.’ The sale also includes 14 cars from a separate private collection, including a 1965 Ford Lotus Cortina and a 1977 Porsche 911 Targa. Silverstone is planning to use the latest government guidance on the lockdown to allow people to view the cars beforehand, subject to social distancing.
C’sCauWction guru, Richard Hudson-Evans, said: ‘Cars can be viewed within socially-distanced guidelines for up to one hour at a central location, access instructions for which will be shared when appointments are made with the specialist associated with the online described lots.
‘The sale will take place from 2pm on one day, but will be closed to the public. The auctioneer will be streamed on the internet on the Silverstone website and registered bidders can do so on the telephone, by leaving commission bids or online.’
