HOW LONG HAVE YOU OWNED IT?

I have owned the car for just six weeks. It is number 15 of 250 10th Anniversary cars produced for the UK. The car came up on a The Market online auction and after two bids I had purchased one of my attainable dream cars for the small sum of £2700. It was perhaps not the best time to buy a car, however the sale was effortless – the seller even helped me with transport, and the paperwork was all done online.

HOW MUCH HISTORY?

The car came with lots of invoices, 1996 being a year of monthly servicing as stamped by Toyota. To my surprise, one of the earlier owners had fitted a tracker and a more recent investment to underseal the underneath was done. Even the MR2 owner’s manual is present so you can admire the Japanese illustrations. The previous owner recently spent £1200 recommissioning the car after a six-year lay-up.

HAS IT BEEN MODIFIED?

There are no modifications to speak of. It’s a very original car with most of the car kept to factory spec. In fact there are many small details that show that it has not been taken apart, like factory paint on the plastic screw heads.

WHAT’S LEFT TO DO ON IT?

A refurbishment of the wheels will make the car really stand out. This is something that I plan to do when the bodyshops are fi nally open again. I’ve already spent many hours machine-polishing the paint. There are a couple of rust areas to treat and paint but nothing major. Oh, and the slight worn driver’s seat probably needs a re-trim. I am loving every minute – it is a fantastic summer car because of the totally cool T-top!
