LIVE BIDS WELCOMED AT BIRTHDAY BASH SALE

Historics opens its doors once again for its tenth anniversary auction

-

UPCOMING AUCTION istorics marks its tenth anniversary with a move to a new venue – Windsorview Lakes, just outside Datchet. Historics has made great strides in the classic movement since its first sale and this continues the punterpleasing mix, much like at Brooklands and Ascot Racecourse.

The decade-in-business auction is already shaping up nicely with a platter of tasty fare, ranging from the rare and exclusive to the commonplace and affordable. Classics entered into the sale – one of the UK’s first to allow bidding in person since the coronavirus lockdown – include a 9000-mile Triumph Spitfire. Expect a strong Jaguar and Mercedes-Benz offering, and a good Bentley and RollsRoyce selection, too.

Those interested in generously proportioned 1950s cars might find a 1950 Humber Super Snipe drophead or 1952 Mercedes-Benz 300 saloon to their liking, especially since both are being offered without reserve. Also from that decade is a selection of Jaguar XK models bookended by a 1950 XK120 Roadster and a 1959 XK150 drophead with a brace of 1955 XK140 SEs (in drophead and fixedhead forms) and a 1954 XK120 SE Roadster filling in the gaps.

With viewing on 14-17 July between 9am and 9pm, there’s every chance that Historics will be marking the anniversary with confident bidding and a successful sales rate. Don’t miss our full report soon.

by Ant Anstead on For The Love Of Cars, which barged through its £15-20k estimate to make nearly nine grand over its upper estimate. It was a similar result for a Volvo 131 ‘Amazon’, and a 1989 Jaguar XJR, which made £2k more than expected.

matter of weeks before, here was more evidence that the classic market remains something of a pressure cooker, with buying eagerness simply waiting to be uncorked – as long as the cars are right. There was plenty on offer, with numerous early lots offered without reserve (a pattern that continues to strengthen) while those with reserves also found no trouble finding new homes.

In all a cracking result, showing that the right cars with the right estimates (not too ambitious) will keep the market buoyant.

he latest H&H ABC sale – so-called because it caters for automobilia, bikes and cars – shows that the market is continuing to strengthen. Getting a 1934 Lagonda M45 tourer away for £184,000 (£60,00 beyond the upper estimate) was a cracking result and showed that while the Staines marque isn’t at the top of everyone’s list, there remains a strong following for these ‘Derby’ Bentley alternatives. promptly was a 1922 Lagonda, making a very healthy £20,250. Those in the cheap seats were well cateredfor, with a 1960 Morris Minor Tourer making £6750, a 1967 MGB GT £6333 and a 1964 Triumph Herald 1200 £6300 while even cheaper was a breadline-specification 1999 BMW 728i for just £1575.

It showed a credible 39,000 miles, came with plenty of earlier history and had just passed its MoT test withy no advisories. Presentable outside, inside and under the bonnet, this was a sensible buy. 1967 MGB GT

A UK-market car with seven former keepers, this MGB’s appeal was helped by the British Racing Green, black/white-piped interior, Webasto sunroof and painted wire wheels. Rated as good throughout, in the great scheme of things it was hardly dear.
