TRY THE BRAKES OUT

-

The Lockheed disc/drum brakes are trouble-free (unless neglected) and easy enough to overhaul, but lack of use can lead to corrosion of the rears. All MB GT V8s have a brake servo. If it feels like there’s no brake assistance it’s because the seals have failed or there’s damage to the main diaphragm in the servo, not allowing the intended pressure variations that provides the assistance. This is often accompanied by an air leak ‘hiss’ and the engine will usually be less smooth. Bank on spending about £330 for a new unit.
